Words,
Stillborn offspring of my fancy!
With what magic shall I make you live,
Make you dance in another’s mind?
When songs fill my brain,
Descended live from that morphic zone
Where muses dance to music at every turn,
How can my lean, dry words
Bring its beauty, freshness, fragrance,
With their beats and hushed murmurs to anyone?
Hapless little words,
Maimed offspring of my fertile mind!
I see you limp into another’s heart
