This is a fun graphic novel that I've been hearing about since it was published. From the back of the book: "At Miss Quinzella Thiskwin Penniquiqui Thistle Crumpet's camp for hardcore lady types, things are not what they seem.”Five Lumberjane Scout campers sneak away from their counselor for a night time adventure. There is more in the dark than they expect, and it begins a variety of adventures with magical and supernatural challenges. Even their meeting with the camp of too-good-to- believe boy campers nearby takes a sinister turn. The camp director seems unsurprised and calmly unperturbed as long as the girls keep their motto: Friendship to the max!Fun, quick read of five kick butt girls, and of course, to be continued in the next volume. Hooray!

This was, amazing, charming, funny and last but not least really wonderfully beautiful. I swear I am perpetually in love with Noelle Stevensons art. I would really recommend this to anyone and everyone, especially those who love them some kickass ladies and brought back some nostalgia of being a scout myself. Truly sweet and adorable.

This is weird and quirky and I'm fairly certain there were a bunch of jokes that just went over my head, but by the end I had become a big fan of these ersatz Girl Scouts and their bizarre adventures.

This book contains the first four issues of the comic.

I had been buying the issues of Lumberjanes as they came out, but reading them all together in this volume was a great experience. Lumberjanes, the story and the art, is one of the best comics out there. It's quirky in the best way, and empowering, and it treats things like gender identity and sexuality like normal topics of conversation between fighting weird creatures and learning how to make friendship bracelets. I'll definitely be getting the new volumes as they come out.

I have heard so much about this graphic novel on the internet lately so when I finally found it available as an ebook from my library, I was very excited to read it. I think sometimes when you are jumping into a comic or graphic novel there is a feeling that you may have missed something going in, and that is how I felt at first with this book. Like there were earlier issues and pieces that I was missing, but the story was a lot of fun and the characters are awesome.I was a fan of the friendship, the charming nature, and the puns :) throughout and the mystery tied it all together nicely. I will definitely be trying to pick up more of these when I can.

SO GREAT. This is a must read for people age 5-105, but is especially great for teens. This is the story of a mysterious summer camp and the girls who try to get to the bottom of the weird goings-on. Young queers get screentime in a way that neither victimizes or objectifies them, the catchphrases are so cute, the girls have diverse personalities, appearances, and representations, and the plots are wacky and fun. One of my fave comics in a long long time.

Sweet Sylvia Plath! This book is absolutely fantastic!! I think it's my new favorite comic book series. The characters are great, the writing is on point, and the adventure is a lot of fun. I just, seriously love everything about Lumberjanes. Can't wait to read more.FRIENDSHIP TO THE MAX!

This was not at all what I expected! I honestly thought it would just be girls having adventures while camping; and while it is, it also isn't. There is a whole other story going on and it's all bizarre and supernatural. Strange things are afoot and the poor Lumberjanes keep stumbling into weirdness. It's kinda like a female cast of the Goonies meets the Brothers Winchester. They are quirky and fun characters. Their reaction to things and their terminology is so 80's! It's like stepping back into my childhood. I got this because I thought it would be something fun that both my daughter and myself could read and enjoy. Well, this was a really fun read, and I have a feeling my daughter will like it even more than I did!

I'd been hearing about this comic for a while, then I received it on my birthday from Josh. I didn't really know what to expect from this other than awesome!girl!comics! At first I was a little thrown by all the paranormal elements and the "this is not what my Girl Scout camp was like"-ness of this comic.

So I'm glad I had the TPB and not individual comics, because once I had enough time to get used to what this actually was, I did get into it. I like the book's high standards for girlness, the diversity of characters, the richness of the colors, and the exclamations. Okay, really, they had me at the exclamations. Which go like, "Holy Mae Jemison!" or, "Where the Phillis Wheatley were you?" I mean, those kind of exclamations could have been custom-built for me. I need to start working them into my daily usage. Like, right now.

Both my husband and daughter insisted I read this series. It is something special. Over the top and wry, 5 girls in Roanoke cabin at Lumberjanes camp have adventures while avoiding or ditching their frazzled counselor. Each episode is preceded by a half page of text describing a merit badge, including the Pungeon Master badge, which we see before it is described.

April, Mal, Ripley, Molly, and Jo are just spending their summer at camp, working hard to earn their various Lumberjanes badges. But seriously weird things keep happening. Attack foxes and river monsters are just some of the things the girls encounter that would make anyone ask, "What the junk?!" Can the girls figure out what's going on and keep their cabin leader, Jen, from having heart attack over their recurring disappearances at the same time?I went into the first Lumberjanes knowing I'd love it as so many other readers whose tastes I respect already do. And I was not disappointed. This first volume is just as fun as I'd expected. And by the second chapter I'd finally managed to get a handle on which girl went with which name. I'll definitely be continuing on with this series.

A group of adorably quirky girls discover that their summer camp isn't terribly normal. They, however, seem very much up to the challenge.I loved it. The banter among the campers is fast and funny and it's easy to fall in love with all the characters immediately.

After totally loving "Nimona", wanted to try this out. It's got the same feeling of unrestricted creativity and silliness, but even more so. The characters are lovable, the occasional geeky references are fun and there's even a dungeon crawl! At 46 I can't help but feel that this is actually a little too silly for me, but I'm testing out on my 13 year old daughter so we'll see how it goes. If she likes it we'll continue the adventure together. If not, we'll move on to something else.

Girl Scout camp meets Raiders of the Lost Ark. Five gal pals are at Lumberjanes camp where things get supernatural very quickly: foxes under the sway of the Kitten Holy, an underground cave with talking statues and perilous paths, and a neighboring camp of boys who are not what their perfect facades would reveal. It's very quickly paced from the get-go and these are not girly-girls but "hardcore lady types" who are more inconvenienced than frightened of scary things.

I read this on August 17. Won't count it for my Reading Challenge until later if I need it to make my goal.

I had trouble keeping all the girls' names straight at first, but eventually I got it.

It really bugged me that there were editing problems galore in the opening paragraphs of each part--I couldn't tell f it was intentional to make it seem like a young girl had written it or not. Either way, I found it distracting.

The first volume of Lumberjanes in trade, collecting issues 1-4, introduces the Lumberjanes, five friends at Miss Qiunzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet's Camp for Girls Hardcore Lady-Types. Jo, Mal, Molly, April, and Riley go on adventures at camp (usually unsanctioned adventures that involve escaping their counselor, Jen) and experience "friendship to the max!" Something weird is going on in the woods surrounding camp, and they're going to find out what. The girls are all awesome and badass, the art is fun, the humor is great, and I am for serious curious what is Going On. This falls solidly into the category of "Things I Wish Had Been Around When I Was Twelve and That I Am Crazy Glad Today's Girls Will Get to Read." Recommended. And now I have to go back to the bookstore, stat, to get volume 2.

The three star rating is somewhat disingenuous. Myself, I rate Lumberjanes 2/5, although I could see my students loving it, and I imagine that I'll order the series for my school library. It comes down to the fact that I simply do not enjoy Stevenson's writing. I did not see what the fuss was over Nimona (I found her annoying), and I felt pretty much the same way about Lumberjanes. The characters, although all atypical female characters, were the most basic stereotypical atypical female characters. I dig the girl power, just not the execution. What I do like are the shout-outs to female leaders that pepper the dialog. Would you need to look them up? Probably, but the list is fabulous and a great talking point with adolescent patrons. Look for:* Juliette Gordon Low: founder of Girl Scouts of America*Anahareo: Mohawk writer, conservationist, animal rights activist*Mae Jemison: first African-American woman to travel into space, NASA astronaut and physician*Bessie Coleman: first female African-American pilot and first licensed Native American woman pilot*Phillis Wheatley: first published female African-American poet

Did leave me wanting more. A story of five girls on camp, their Cabin leader Jen and their adventures in the woods around the camp. Everything is to the nth degree and I had to laugh at the scouts. It's a fun read, I wasn't too fond of the artwork but overall I liked the characters and the outrageous things that happen to them.

Lumberjanes takes the stereotypical shenanigans that boys at summer camp might imagine getting into but its with a crew of totally badass girls. I didn't know what to expect coming into this but was absolutely delighted at what I found. Laced within the silliness and paranormal is very real lessons that every young girl should learn from the Up All Night badge (conquering the unknown) to the Pungeon Master badge (never take life too seriously). I can't wait to read more of these girls' advantures!

The reviews for this comic collection have been overwhelmingly positive, and I can see why. The characters are strong, individualized, and intriguing girls, the setting is familiar and spooky at the same time, the story is refreshing, both charming and adventurous. Lumberjanes is about five girls who are part of the Lumberjanes organization, a group that is suspiciously similar to the Girl Scouts, with some

I thought this was a lot of fun. It took some time to get into the story and characters, and I felt like it was a good thing I read the first couple of issues as one volume, or I don't know that I would have kept going. But once we got to the first mention of the Kitten Holy, I was hooked. I still have a bit of trouble keeping the names straight, and I'm hoping for more backstory, but I will definitely keep reading.

Oh man, this is so great. I love how they swear by famous women. (And "what the junk," which is pretty great, too.) I love all the three-eyed monsters. I love that Ripley a) is named Ripley and b) is a pre-adolescent female Wolverine, Fastball Special and all. I love Jen and Rosie and the creepy boys' camp and I cannot wait for more of this to exist.

Oh my, I am soo glad I picked up this bad boy! It was even better than I anticipated!! You will want all your friends to read it so that you can talk about it and try to be as cool as the lumberjanes. Seriously, I want to be on their level. While at a summer camp for "Hardcore Lady-Types" five campers discover something mysterious going on in the wilderness surrounding their cabins. Three eyed foxes, yetis, a river monster, and rumors of a "Holy Kitten" keep the lumberjanes busy and drives their camp counselor up a wall. Hilarious and over the top, this comic amused me to no end. I was sold after the Holy Kitten, but it continued to get better after that, with sayings like, "What in the Joan Jett!?" minor hinting towards gay crushes, mythical creatures, and random rantings, this book has a little something for everyone. This is definitely one that I will buy and will continue to keep up with the series. Soo damn good!
