About this ebook

The poems within are snippets of imaginery conversations that I should've, but never had with my family members through the many years of my deviant behavior that led to my repeated incarcerations. It was only when I confronted my conscience through poetry that I was able to change my attitude, values, and behavior. Through these changes I find myself hopefully empowering the next generation.

Author

Charles William Jr.

I was born in Harlem Hospital, but raised in The Marcy Housing projects (Williamsburg, Brooklyn). Currently, I'm residing in East Elmhurst, Queens. Both my mother(WillieMae) and my sister(Julie) were avid readers and writers. which definitely had a positive affect on me, especially between the fourth and fifth grades in my early development of public school. It was during those years when I first noticed I was developing a commandof both reading and speaking English, and was subsequently called upon to read aloud by both my teachers and peers) For decades I went to the School of Hard Knocks(SOHK) and as a result of such ended up in the penal system through decades of incarceration, while in prison, walls grew between me and my family. The psychological damage behind incarceration runs not only deep, but often times leaves permanent scars. Thus, here's my catharsis of how I was able to change through poetry and leave my nightmares behind.

    Acknowledgements

First and foremost, I’d like to thank Jesus, who is the head of my life, who brought me out of my wilderness in the streets and gave my life a true meaning, purpose and direction.

Doris (Diane) Bailey was the main contributor to this book. She grew to be my dearest friend who I not only came to love, but respect… and appreciate.

Frederick Allen Burton (Grasshopper), my closest friend and protégé; an accomplished and award-winning photographer; also an aspiring poet who walked with me throughout the many pages of most of my writings with inquisitiveness, input and inspiration.

Jonel & Barbara (Queens Spy Shop) – who supported me through my worst of times, with not only their trust and respect, but with their inspiration through assistance of encouragement. Thank you, both!

Andrew Jackson (Executive Director of Langston Hughes Library) – whose contributions throughout the past three decades have been unwavering and heartfelt.

Mrs. Dent (Manager of East Elmhurst Library) who gave me the honor and privilege to host Open Mic once a month in the East Elmhurst library, but more so supported my Christian Fellowship.

Joy Bowman (Customer Service Specialist) one of my greatest supporters and dearest friend.

Rev. Martin J. Bentley, D.Min., who is my pastor and spiritual leader.

Ivettelis Rodriguez and Christina Long (District Office Manager & Constituent Liaison of CM Julissa Ferreras’ office) whose expertise, professional as well as personal assistance helped draft my manuscript for publishing and who are truly a positive gift to the Northern Queens community.

Last, but not least, to all those who prayed for me; as well as those who are continuing…

    Peace and love,
