Toxic: Nine Attitudes That Will Destroy Your Life, Family, or Church
()
About this ebook
Some of the greatest problems to overcome in life are the ones that you do not realize are there. Many times attitudes affect your life, your relationships, your workplaces, and probablymost importantlyyour church. And much like toxic gasses that can exist unseen, and even without odor, these attitudes can go unrecognized. They will hinder and even destroy the joy of the believer and the unity of the body of Christ.
Toxic takes a look at the nine attitudes of anger, jealousy, quarreling, slander, gossip, selfishness, arrogance, disorderly behavior, and judgmentalism from a biblical perspective, exposing their detrimental impacts.
Toxic will not only help you through a process of identifying these attitudes if present, but will also give you tools to confront them in your life, as you seek out freedom and healing that can only come from God.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT)
8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.
Introduction
Have you ever wondered if David, while he was picking out his five smooth stones, or Daniel, as he began his descent into the Lion’s Den, had any thought that the experiences they were about to go through would be chronicled for generations of believers to read, learn, and grow from? When Martin Luther posted his Ninety-Five Theses, do you think he knew he was about to start a Reformation? Or as Mark Lowery asked in his song…did Mary know?
All of these are great questions. If I had to speculate to the answers I would say no to the first three, and yes to Mary…the whole Angel Appearing
thing probably gave it away, though admittedly she may not have imagined all the details. But as for David, Daniel, and Martin, I anticipate that as they were experiencing these great adventures in real time, they probably were indeed living in real time. I think they were probably trusting completely in God, but had no idea of the end result of their trust, faith, and obedience.
I think that many times this is the case with most Christians. As we go through life, we trust that God will help us, lead us, and even use us, but rarely do we comprehend or even imagine the full extent and ramifications of what we are going through…not only for our lives, but for generations to come.
Now, lest you mistakenly think that I am about to compare myself to David, Daniel, or Martin, I am not…I am merely making the correlation that this book, too, developed out of something. I didn’t set down to write a book, but rather as a Pastor of a vibrant and growing young church, I felt God lead me to preach a sermon series on things that could destroy a healthy church. The series was titled, How to split the church in 5 weeks.
It was in the process of preparing and preaching the series that God laid on my heart the reality that ours was not the only church that could use this information.
Likewise, it was in the process of preparing and preaching that series that I realized the information God was revealing to me would not only help as preventative maintenance for a healthy church, but would also be very applicable as preventative maintenance in most of our relationships.
The nine things I am about to convey to you are not only Toxic
to a healthy church, but can destroy marriages, friendships, business ventures, relationships between parents and children, and the list goes on and on. These nine things are indeed Toxic,
and should be avoided at all costs…it was that realization that lead to this book being written, and eventually to your reading it now.
It is my prayer that as you read this book, regardless of your intent in picking it up, that you would open your heart to any area of your life to which these biblical truths apply. I pray that you would receive God’s correction and
