About the Author and His books
Introduction
Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay has made guest appearances before, in several other books. Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay wanted to fly solo with his own book this time, and thus, Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay got his wish: Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay: Wing Adventure.
Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay now has the opportunity to fly solo into book land, with Birdy’s own title, and lots of stories to live Birdy’s winged life through adventures.
Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay is not exactly completely solo though, in his book. Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay has a solo license to fly, yes indeed he does, but Birdy’s friends are along for the flight in this book, although most of Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay’s friends stay landed, or grounded.
Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay likes his friends to be grounded, but many of Birdy’s friends are flying about the sky also, in Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay: Wing Adventure.
Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay last made a flight in the books ‘Passing the Time’, ‘More Time to Pass’, ‘The Best of Times’ and ‘Still Another Time, Times Remembered’. Birdy has updated his storytelling for his backyard friends.
This is Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay’s solo story book!
Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay: Wing Adventures.
Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay had a game in one of the other books: Birdy’s game was for the reader to find words that might need to be changed. Birdy does get bird brained, and he might have some words that need to be changed around. This is his bird game for you! Birdy plays this game with the Little Lucita birds all of the time. The birds think this game is hiding and go seek word game.
Birdy thinks of words as sort of bread crumbs in a way: a few bread crumbs sprinkled across Birdy’s whole back yard, do not mean much to Birdy, he cannot hardly see the bread crumbs if they are scattered this way. However, when the bread crumbs are scattered in one spot, Birdy spots the bread crumbs from high in the air, and swoops down for a dinner feast. Words assembled in one place, in sentences and paragraphs and stories into books, make Birdy happy. Birdy likes to chirp along as he reads.
Birdy believes bread crumbs are the food for his body; the words assembled for him to read are the food for his bird brain. Birdy knows his bird brain needs to be fed just as often as his bird body does with bread crumbs and whatever else Birdy likes to feast upon. Birdy has books to read as his bird brain food.

Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay in
‘Kitten in the Backyard’
I am blue, I am in charge here!’ Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay was a Blue Jay. Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay was a Backyard Blue Jay in Houston.
Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay did not let any bird not to his liking chance land in ‘his backyard’.
The backyard was Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay’s own bird land kingdom. This is Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay land! This is Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay’s stomping grounds, or, landing ground.
‘This backyard is my roosting territory, and just let any wayward owl or hawk dare try and swoop upon this back yard, and my winged Blue Jay Birdies and other winged and non-winged friends will dive bomb their wing feathers faster than fearless Freddy the feared flying bird. And, for the non-feathered friends, beware of what they will do to the intruder pests! These were Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay’s words and these were Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay’s thoughts.
Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay knew a wise owl down the street, an old friend of many seasons. Bugeye the Owl seemed more intent on digesting Blue Jay’s than in trying to act wisely, once upon a time. Bugeye the Owl seemed to be wise enough to know Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay was off limits to his digestive tract, and Birdy was a better friend than foe to Bugeye the Owl.
You see, owls liked to have Blue Jays on their meal plan sometimes.
Sometimes Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay needed advise from his backyard friends and that included Bugeye the Owl. Bugeye the Owl was a good source of wisdom. This time, the wisdom Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay sought was on a birds nest. Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay thought about a good price to pay for the birds nest and thought about a fair price regularly, in his bird brain.
Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay had a bird nest that once belonged to another bird. The other bird had the nest in Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay’s territory, a human type person’s backyard, Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay’s own land. Or so Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay thought this was his land.
The bird nest owner had migrated to Canada and had taken up residence with his bride ‘Beaky Boo crow’ outside of Toronto. Toronto was in Canada, a long flight from the Birdy backyard in the White Oak Bayou Basin of Houston, Texas.
Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay did not expect his old migratory acquaintance to return to Houston and Birdy took the ‘For Rent’ sign off the bird nest. Birdy sent his old bird nest owner acquaintance a bag of bird seed for the vacant nest via his buddy, Pige the pigeon.
Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay was hoping his Birdy buddy Belly the Beaky Crow would just sell off the nest to Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay. Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay never thought that Beaky would want to return to Houston. Why would Beaky want to return, anyway? Toronto is where he flew off to, to live, and Toronto had all of those tall buildings that made for great nesting locations. Houston had lots of trees, but not as many skyscrapers as Toronto did.
Birdy had been to Toronto as a young wing trainer, when he attended classes at the Blue Sky and Sea Flight School. Birdy loved the school, and loved the blue sky around Toronto. The blue sky here reminded Birdy of some rocks he kept stashed away in his bird nest back home in his backyard, lapis lazuli. Birdy loved the word, and practiced chirping it out sound by chirp by sound, since the stone or rock was his favorite blue, too.
Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay had as his bride of several years, Birdella. Birdella was the ‘best catch’ in the oaks, Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay always would say. Birdella was raised in a live oak tree, just west of Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay’s backyard. Birdy the Backyard Blue Jay’s eyes spotted Birdella
