Finally I must commend the efforts, encouragement and contributions of my beloved wife Pastor Funmilola to the success of this work.

    FORWARD

It is my great pleasure to write the foreword to this book, This Wickedness Must End, written by the Area Pastor of our Northern operations, headquartered in Abuja, and my son in the Lord, Pastor Kola Ogidi.

    Micah the Prophet lamented:

The good man is perished out of the earth: and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net. That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asketh, and the judge asketh for a reward; and the great man, he uttereth his mischievous desire: so they wrap it up. The best of them is as a brier: the most upright is sharper than a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen and thy visitation cometh; now shall be their perplexity.

    Micah 7:2-4

In this book, Pastor Ogidi explores the meaning of wickedness, especially as it affects a child of God. He particularly offers insight into ways of identifying subtle shades of wickedness. He exposes the instruments of wickedness, and teaches on the modes of operation of the wicked. Using both biblical and contemporary examples, he explains the various types of wickedness, and shows how a child of God can deal with them. He insists that wickedness must be stopped because, although the wicked will repent or die one day, he/she must have done a lot of damages if not checked on time.

I am particularly impressed by the depth of intellectual effort that the author invests in this book. He has succeeded in communicating spiritual truth in a simple, yet intellectual manner. The book shall thus be useful for both casual readers and scholars alike.

It is therefore my pleasure to recommend This Wickedness Must End to everyone who seeks to enjoy the fullness of life that Christ purchased for us through His blood. Imbibe the lessons therein, put them to work, and let us join hands to pull down the strongholds of Satan in our world.

    God bless you.

    INTRODUCTION

Matthew 13:24-30: Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. This text reveals one of the parables of Jesus Christ which explains the lives of many people. Here was an experienced farmer who sowed good seed on a good land expecting a good harvest, but surprisingly, when the fruit of his labour came, an unwanted visitor (tares) appeared. How come? He asked. This is the question many people (including believers) ask themselves today. Many will never be accused of being lazy at work until they are due for promotion. Some ladies will never be disappointed by their fiancés until the relationship begins to get rooted. In verse 28, Jesus gave us the root cause of these. He said "…an enemy has done this". A wicked man!

Does it seem the rod of the wicked is falling upon you? Which is contrary to the scriptures? May be the wicked ones do not allow you to have a moment of breathing space because you have to go from one mountain to the other to fight against them. Your life may be so much filled with battles that you feel life is not worth a living. I have good news for you-Every act of wickedness has expired. The Mighty one in battle is stepping into your situation.

    CHAPTER ONE

    WHAT IS WICKEDNESS?

According to the Encarta dictionary, wickedness is defined as that which is evil, very wrong or very bad. It is also defined as something playfully mischievous without intending to upset people seriously; it is something mean, expressing very unpleasant things to people; something evil, morally bad or wrong, or that which causes harm, pain, or misery.

A wicked man, simply put is one who tries or wishes to harm or attack others. He can also be referred to as one who has ill feelings or hatred towards somebody or something. As a matter of fact, there is nobody who doesn’t have an enemy whether known or unknown. Those who say they don’t have any enemy are their own enemies. Ps 68:1 says "Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him". From this passage, it was evident as we can see that God himself has enemies. Jesus throughout his entire life had one enemy or the other to contend with, especially from the Pharisees, Sadducees and Chief Priests. 1 Samuel 18:29b ". . . and Saul became David’s enemy continually". Saul pursued David until he (Saul) died. Many believers blame God for their calamities whereas the wicked is the one doing the havoc. The Bible says in John 10:10 that the thief (the wicked) comes to steal, kill and destroy, while Jesus has come to give us life in abundance.

However, this wickedness is found everywhere; in the homes (see my book WHEN YOUR HOME IS ON FIRE), in the offices, schools, market places and in churches.

Some students went to a night market in Ibadan (Oyo State, Southwest, Nigeria) to buy some foodstuffs. They were surprised when one of them, a Christian suddenly shouted at an old woman who was selling okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) to them. He alleged that the woman was sitting upside down and was vomiting the okra from her mouth and arranging them in the tray from where she was selling to intending customers. This woman, knowing that her secret has been revealed, started begging the brother. Many innocent people have bought from this okra without sanctifying it before eating it. What do you think will be their fate? Ecclesiastes 4:1(TLB) Next I observed all the oppression and sadness throughout the earth—the tears of the oppressed, and no one helping them, while on the side of their oppressors were powerful allies. This scripture informs us that there are many who are suffering from the hands of the wicked and have no way out. The good news is that Jesus has come to deliver us all from their hands.

God created man for His pleasure, but the fall of Adam turned man to an instrument of wickedness in the hands of Satan therefore making man himself an abode of wickedness. When David was given an option of falling into the hands of either God or man, he didn’t think twice before he chose to fall into the hands of God rather than man as recorded in 2 Samuel 24:12-14. Psalm 37 gives a vivid description of the acts of the wicked and of God’s judgment upon them. We can see that wickedness is an active, destructive principle fashioned by Satan against God and humanity. Proverbs 21:10(TLB) An evil man loves to harm others; being a good neighbour is out of his line. This active opposition to God and his people causes suffering and distress. Psalm 10:1-4(NKJV). Why do You stand afar off, O Lord? Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble? The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised. For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire; He blesses the greedy and renounces the Lord. The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts. The prosperity of the wicked tries and tests the faith of the righteous. When faced with the terrible force of the wicked, the righteous prays for God’s deliverance and for His judgment upon them. Unfortunately, many instead of praying for God’s judgment like David, waste their time begging the wicked. This is a serious mistake! Proverbs 4:14-17. Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence. The Bible says that the wicked lose their sleep until they do evil. This is a perfect description of the wicked.

There was a young man who went to Lagos from his home town in search of greener pastures. He left his village with an old car (a Datsun 180B) he inherited from his late father. God helped him in Lagos and things were going on well. For the fear of not wanting people to know about his exploits, he usually travelled home in thatched cloths with his old car. Along the line he bought a white Mercedes Benz 200. The car arrived on a Friday evening when he was preparing to travel home for a meeting. He parked it in the garage he had earlier built for it, thanked God with his wife and left for the village as usual in his thatched cloth specially reserved for that purpose. They had the family meeting on Friday night after which everybody went to bed. As the Yoruba custom is, the old women in the compound went round early in the morning around 6 o’clock to greet family members. One of the women of over 80 years came to him. After greeting him and asking after his wife and children, she asked a question that made this man pinch himself before answering. She said ‘my son, I just came to congratulate you on the new thing you have just bought’. ‘What is that mama?’ The man exclaimed. ‘The white thing of course’ answered the woman. ‘Which white thing?’ he asked. At this juncture, the woman hit the nail on the head, she said ‘we are already aware of the white car you just bought, so stop behaving like a kid’. The man began to shake. He wondered how this old woman got to know about something he hasn’t told anybody. This is ignorance. May I categorically say here that witches don’t need your permission before knowing where you are or whom you are. Matthew 2:1-2. Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. The wise men were not told about the birth of Jesus through GSM or e-mail, all they did was to look up and read His star. This is one point we must understand! Running away from the wicked is not the solution. Many Christians don’t go home for Christmas just because they are afraid of witches. Such people should stop deceiving themselves; witches don’t need to board a plane before they can visit you. The antidote is to face them and deal with them in prayers. Their judgment has already been declared in Psalm 1:6: "For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. The expectations of the righteous include God’s judgment on the wicked in this life that they might be ashamed (Psalm 31:17), be overcome by sorrows (Psalm 32:10), fall by their devices (Psalm 141:10), die a premature death (Proverbs 10:27), and be remembered no more (Proverbs 10:7). It is also expected that at the time of their death there will be great shouting: When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: when the wicked perish, there is shouting". Proverbs 11:10.

The judgment upon the wicked is particularly strong as described by Solomon where he contrasted the advantages of wisdom and righteousness and the disadvantages of wickedness. Proverbs 2:22: "But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it". While expressing his view about the wicked, Job asked a question: why are the wicked not cut off? Job 21:7. "Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power? Malachi predicted a new age in which the distinction of the righteous and the wicked will be clear and where the righteous will triumph: Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not" Malachi 3:18.
