Ezra Dawn

Well Ezra isn't my real name obviously but I liked the name so I decided to use it. I live at home with my five dogs and one cat. I started out writing hetero romance novels but it wasn't where my heart lied. I adore all things paranormal and M/M is by far my favorite genre so I decided to start writing Paranormal Romances. There's a guaranteed happy ending with each of my books even if it may take some time for my guys to get there. I love each and every character on the page as if they were my own children. It sounds weird but that’s how I feel about them. ? I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember but only started actively pursuing it as a career three years ago when I decided to stop working in a salon and pursue writing full time. Since I published my first book in 2014 I have written and released nine other books with many more to come. My current list of projects is longer than my arm so I look forward to writing and creating new stories for my readers to enjoy ?

    Rule #1: No Innocents

Bullets, blood, no witnesses, no innocents. That’s my motto. As a hitman, I get paid to do the dirty work of others, but I have rules. Rules protect me from a 10x10 cell in some off-grid maximum-security facility or a CIA black site where I’ll never see the light of day again. I guess you could call me a hitman with a conscience. I never take on a client without doing my own research first. Other ‘not so smart’ hitmen might say fuck it and do as asked all for the sake of money. Me? I’m not like that. You can call it vigilante justice or Karma, but I refuse to take the life of someone who has done nothing wrong.

Innocents have no place at the end of my gun barrel and I strive to make sure I never harm someone who doesn’t deserve it. Which is why I do my own research. I’ve learned to take what my would-be employers say with a grain of salt. No amount of money is worth spilling innocent blood over, in my opinion. Others out there couldn’t care less, but then again, they’re the ones who have abandoned any form of humanity they might’ve had. I might not be human, but I do have feelings like they do, and I refuse to abandon those feelings.

My feelings are what keep me sane in this lonely life of mine. Money can buy you a lot of things, but it can’t buy love…well, not the deep soul-crushing, all encompassing love of romance novels. It can buy you the ‘one-night only’ type though. Being who I am, makes my life a lonely existence, add in my vampirism on top of that and it makes for one not so happy ending. There aren’t many people out there who would love a person like me aside from my mother, but she knows nothing about my job. If someone other than her were crazy enough to fall for me, I fear they’d only get themselves hurt. Either by me or by my enemies. That’s not a risk I’m willing to take. So, I’ll settle for the fleeting romances of the ‘one night’ variety. Keeping myself and those that would love me out of harms way.

    Rule #2: No Witnesses

Leaving witnesses is never a good idea. Especially, if they can identify you. A simple description to a sketch artist and facial recognition put you one step closer to that 10x10 cell and the death penalty. Which is why, when I go after a target, I make sure they are alone even if it means having to kidnap them and dump them somewhere else after the deed is done. I refuse to put myself in the position where I could possibly end up caught.

If you think you’re going to get caught, DON’T DO IT!! This is what gut instinct is for. My gut instinct and my powers as a vampire, have saved my ass on more than one occasion. My latest employer is one of those sleazy types, you know the ones, thinning hairline greased with some sort of hair product, expensive suit that doesn’t flatter the man’s appearance, and a nervousness they try to hide by a too-big smile, and a lot of flourishing hand gestures. I usually hate to deal with this type of guy but have to because they’re usually a paying customer with deep pockets.

This guy is the type that has my gut telling me he’s hiding something and is the kind of bad news that almost always gets someone innocent killed, but I refuse to kill someone who isn’t on a kill order. Doesn’t matter how bad I want to, I won’t do it. It pays to master the art of emotionless expression. Wearing a mask of indifference is what gets me through a lot of these meetings. If they think I couldn’t care less, then they’re more inclined to reveal something that’ll either push me towards accepting or have me outright refusing. Right now, I’m leaning towards accepting, simply because the way this sleaze is painting the picture of the target’s misdeeds, I have to find out the truth for myself.

Raising my hand to cut off his lengthy spiel, I say, I need at least a day to do my own research on the prospective target. When I’ve looked into this person’s background and decide their fate for myself, I’ll call you.

The man nods; gives me a nervous smile he quickly hides behind a fake air of confidence, and says, I look forward to hearing from you.

Curious…very curious. He’s looking a bit shiftier than before. Hm…maybe this target is worth looking into. I smell something fishy about this whole situation and my instincts have never steered me wrong before. I wait for them to leave first, then I make my exit. As a precaution, I always rent an office space with cash, so I can meet clients without revealing anything about where I might live. A hitman always has enemies and it pays to err on the side of caution when dealing with prospective employers.

Leaving via the back exit, I make sure I’m not followed as I make my way to the motorcycle I’ve parked down the street from the office building. After checking my surroundings one more time to be sure I wasn’t followed, I put on my helmet, start the bike, and take off towards the apartment I’m
