Stephen King is an American author best known for his horror novels. Born in Portland, Maine in 1947, King was raised by his mother after the separation of his parents. From there, King spent his childhood between Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Stratford, Connecticut. In 1970, King graduated from the University of Maine with a B.A. in English, and married Tabitha Spruce the year after. It was over the next few years that King’s novel writing became recognised. Having published many short stories since 1967, King moved forward and sent his first full-length novel, Carrie, to a publication agency by the name of Doubleday & Co., which accepted the novel in 1973. This allowed King to leave his teaching career and write full-time.
