About this ebook

In this beloved holiday classic, New York Times bestselling author Francine Rivers shares a poignant story about the simple yet inspiring faith of a child.

Special features include
  • A five-part Advent devotional
  • The Christmas story—selected scenes from Matthew and Luke
  • Francine’s favorite recipes
This tender Christmas novella tells the story of Timmy O’Neil, a foster child with a very mysterious shoe box. At first glance, it’s nothing special—just an ordinary box with a red lid and the words Running Shoes printed on the side.

But Timmy carries it with him wherever he goes, and when people ask him what’s inside, he smiles and says, “Just things.”

As Timmy settles into his new, loving home, he remains unwilling to share the secrets of his shoe box . . . until the beauty of the church Nativity pageant inspires him to open his heart and give the most precious gift of all.

This short story about a young foster child at Christmas gets right to the point. Christmas is a time for hope and belief in God. This foster child’s shoe box contains all the things that meant something to him, and he always carries it with him, until the end of the story. An interesting part of this tale is the backstory about how the author came up with the idea for this tender and inspirational Christmas story.

I love Francine Rivers' books. Her writing style draws you in and keeps you engaged. The Shoe Box was a good read in preparation for Christmas. It exemplified the true meaning of Christmas. The added bonus was the Advent devotional at the end of the book. Each week focused on a different gift that we received as a result of accepting Jesus into our heart.

Really sugary story about a foster child who carries around a shoe box everywhere, until he leaves it for Jesus in the Nativity play

This small little book had alot of delightful recipes, a story, a Bible reading and thoughts from the author. Though the story was short, it was very meaningful and the recipes were inviting and I enjoyed reading the Christmas story from the Bible passages she printed. Would make a lovely Christmas gift for someone dear to you.
