About this ebook
Christianity Today Book Award
"Wynn is my son. No little boy could be more loved by his parents. Inquisitive, fiercely affectionate, staunchly opinionated, he sees the world through eyes of wonder and has yet to become jaded by society's cruelty. I know he'll grow up with stories of having been made to feel 'other' because of the color of his skin. I want to teach him that, though life's unfair, he still has incomparable value in the eyes of his heavenly Father. I know this wondrous little person has the potential to change the world—and I want him to know it too."
In Mother to Son, Jasmine Holmes shares a series of powerful letters to her young son. These are about her journey as an African American Christian and what she wants her son to know as he grows and approaches the world as a black man. Holmes deals head-on with issues ranging from discipleship and marriage to biblical justice. She invites us to read over her shoulder as she reminds Wynn that his identity is firmly planted in the person and work of Jesus Christ, even when the topic is one as emotionally charged as race in America.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Such a great book! As a mother of 3 there are so many things that jasmine hopes to teach her son that I hope to teach my children. But the insight she gives as a black mother to a black son is so helpful for anyone. To understand how she has felt judged at times and how black men can be looked at and treated really is something we should all consider.
I also love how biblical she keeps it without being overbearing and continually turns her sons eyes {and our eyes} to his identity in Christ, that being the most important thing! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent book! Jasmine Holmes does an incredible job holding the tension of viewing ethnic differences as purposeful by God; but these things are not ultimate. As a Black male myself, I thought this book provided great insight into the experience of being Black in America. This is a very necessary read for anyone serious about learning and growing to value Black people as image bearers of God.

All I can say to my fellow believers is: read the book. Prepare to be pushed to be made more into the image and character of Christ. And pass the book on to those you love.2 people found this helpful
