MAKE YOUR OWN MODERN

It’s a well-established design trend that has heavily influenced Australian architecture, but while many are familiar with the term “modern”, its broad usage to describe everything from minimalist to mid-century aesthetics can cause confusion.

While all modern architecture shares the core tenets of clean lines, simple yet striking shapes and minimal embellishment, there are a number of different trends that sit under this term which I tend to summarise into five categories: “Mid-century modern”, “Minimalism”, “Scandi barn”, “Coastal” and “Mixed materials”.
