All About Blogging - Ronel Janse van Vuuren
Introduction
Blogging is a concept with lots of preconceived ideas surrounding it. Some say that blogging is dead... they’ve been singing that tune since the start of the century and the birth of blogging. Some believe that blogging is a waste of time. They’re right: the way they are doing it is a waste of time. Others swear by the value blogging has added to their careers – and their lives.
Before you start a blog you should stop and consider:
What am I interested in?
What have I researched for a book?
From there you can figure out if you have enough things you’d like to write about. This will be the theme of your blog.
Then consider this:
How much time do I have to spend on a blog post?
How long should a post be? (e.g. a research trip to Loch Ness to see the Loch Ness Monster can be a series of short posts or one long one.)
Do I want to post once a month, once a week, twice a week, or every day?
This is a long-term commitment and there is no right or wrong way to do this: just be consistent.
Don’t be ashamed to stop blogging if you’ve tried it and hate it. But give it at least six months before stopping. Real results take time to see.
Don’t start your blog around one book: you are the brand and the blog is about building an audience for all your books, not just the first one.
Don’t tell me that you don’t have fifteen minutes to spare to write something compelling to get people to want to
