All That Jazz - and More! An Interview With Stefon Harris

New York’s Harlem area especially appealed to African American artists and intellectuals who wanted to escape discrimination in the South during the early 20th century. That led to the Harlem Renaissance, a cultural movement that lasted from around 1918 through the mid-1930s. As part of that, Harlem hosted a vibrant jazz scene throughout the era.

Today, jazz music continues to thrive. To learn more, COBBLESTONE spoke with Stefon Harris. He heads the jazz program at the Manhattan School of Music (MSM) located in Harlem. He’s also a well-known musician in his own right.
