Commemorating black history

Black History Month (BHM) was created as an opportunity for people to learn about something rarely taught in schools: the history of black people. What brought them to western shores, how horrifically they were treated, how hard they fought. It’s a past tightly intertwined with that of the UK and America, but while schools can teach black history, few do and, as recently as July, the government blocked calls for colonial and black British history to be part of the curriculum.
