When broadcasting star Toni Street first started thinking about surrogacy as a way to achieve her long-held dream of a third child, one of the biggest hurdles was a lack of information. She had the internet of course, but no one in her friendship group or wider circle had been down the unconventional route to parenthood. What’s more, surrogacy headlines seemed to stem solely from Hollywood.

So, when her best friend Sophie Braggins made the incredible offer to carry Toni and her husband Matt France’s baby, the Coast radio host (whose auto-immune condition had ruled out a third pregnancy) made the conscious decision to be open about her journey.

“We need to demystify surrogacy,” she tells Woman. “I’d love it if others struggling to have a baby in the traditional way realised it’s something they can and should consider. Look at me and my family, we’re living proof that it’s possible.”
