Goal Setting - Kam Knight
INTRODUCTION
Give me a stock clerk with a goal, and I will give you someone who will make history. Give me someone without a goal, and I will give you a stock clerk.—J.C. Penny
––––––––
Have you ever wanted to accomplish something, but were unsure how to begin? Perhaps you started something, but couldn’t figure out the right actions to take. Maybe you began taking action and nothing happened. The absence of a worthwhile outcome caused you to give up before ever getting started.
Sometimes trying to accomplish a task or a goal can be like trying to find your way out of a large and confusing maze. You know where you are. You know where you want to go; however, the route between here and there is shrouded in mystery and worse, fear.
Well, your fear and confusion are about to pack their bags and head off into the sunset. That is because this book is going to take you by the hand and show you step-by-step how to achieve most anything. That’s right—most anything.
You see, achievement is very much a process of moving from one place to another, just like the maze described above. If you don’t know the route that leads to the destination, you’ll keep wandering in circles.
Ah, but what if someone provided a map, a map with turn-by-turn directions that told you precisely where to go and which route to take while leading you easily down the maze? You’d be far more likely to succeed with that information.
Unfortunately, a map written by someone else can help only so much. Unless the person creating the map understands your unique position in life—your strengths, weaknesses, skills, and lack thereof—any direction they provide will be basic. It will not be tailored to your needs. The map will not focus on you and what you want to accomplish.
Still, there is a solution. What if you had a personalized map? A map that walked you through an easy step-by-step process of creating action steps, overcoming hurdles, and evaluating progress—all tailored to you?
With goal setting, this map is possible. Goal setting offers that plus more. It aids in developing your own personally focused and targeted map, a map that will lead to wherever you decide to go.

CHAPTER 1 – WHAT IS GOAL SETTING?
If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.—Yogi Berra
––––––––
Goal setting is the process of defining specific, measurable, and time-targeted objectives. You figure out your desires, you write them down, then work on achieving them. This is the essence of the technique.
The ability to define and clearly articulate goals is the single most important skill you can develop to achieve the success you desire. If you don’t have a destination, how will you know where to go? If you set a destination, but the description is vague, how will you know if you arrived?
Unfortunately, in our society, the word goal has a bad reputation. It is a word associated with commitments, responsibilities, and hard work. For some, it even reminds them of all the times they failed to reach their goals. Although this word has
