MEASUREMENT OF SOIL MOISTURE

The

standard determination of soil moisture is the loss in weight when a sample is oven-dried. Tensiometer use to determine soil moisture.

through the soil surface into the soil as distinguished from percolation, the movement of water through the soil.

is a geologic unit that can store and transmit water at rates fast enough to supply reasonable amounts to wells. The phreatic zone, or zone of saturation, is the area in an aquifer, below the water table, in which relatively all pores and fractures are saturated with water.

TWO FORMS OF AQUIFERS: 1.) Unconfined aquifers are sometimes also called water table or phreatic aquifers, because their upper boundary is the water table or phreatic surface. 2.) Confined aquifers has a flow boundary (aquitard) above and below it that constricts the flow of water into a confined area.

- is a zone within the earth that restricts the flow of ground water from one aquifer to another called: Aquiclude is a formation that has very low hydraulic conductivity, which hardly transmit water or; Aquifuge is an absolutely impermeable unit that will not transmit any water.
