SS205: Sociology, Week 01 Assignment

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney earlier this month spoke at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and received boos from the audience when he stated that he will eliminate every nonessential, expensive program I can find. That includes 'Obamacare." The boos from the audience lasted about 15 seconds. While ObamaCare is far from perfect, complete throwing it out or using it blame other issues is not the best way to get a following from this audience.

As a social institution, the NAACP has a mission is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination, it was an interesting choice for Romney to speak to them. Romneys status and values are quite different from those of the NAACP, a majority of its members believe that the Republicans are responsible for the recent loss of jobs. Romney demeanor was interesting as well, he stood there and smiled as we waited for the booing to sudsid.
