Practice: Evaluate your outcomes to show your

program is making a difference

Key Action: Define a unique treatment

TOOL: Have We Clearly Defined Treatment Elements?

Purpose: When you can clearly define the unique elements that comprise your magnet
program (what evaluators refer to as “treatment”), it sets the basis for more
effective evaluation. Without a clear understanding of your program activities
—what they are, how and to what extent they will be implemented—it will be
difficult to evaluate your desired outcomes.

Instructions: 1. Use the table to document which key program elements you have defined
in your magnet schools, and which need to be better defined.

2. Make a plan for completing the definition of program elements.
