ZAP!

Program Information
ZAP Zeros Arent Permitted ZAP is a program where students have a mandatory working lunch to finish homework they did not complete and/or turn in to their teachers. The goal is for all students to build the habit of completing and turning in homework every day. This program works well to encourage homework completion. ZAP is a school-wide Tier 2 intervention that allows the school to track students success. STUDENTS who do not complete assigned homework receive a ZAP ticket from the teacher assignment them to ZAP during lunch THE FOLLOWING DAY.
1. Students take their tickets to the front of the lunch line, pick up their lunch, and reports immediately to the ZAP room. 2. During the lunch period, students work on homework for which they were ZAPPED while eating lunch. 3. Homework completed in ZAP is turned into the ZAP supervisor. 4. If students do not finish their assigned work, the students and the supervisor will call home to arrange for the students to stay after school (After School ZAP) to finish the work. 5. To be excused from ZAP, students place the completed assignment for which they were ZAPPED in the basket on the counter in the Attendance Office. This must be done before lunch. 6. Once the students has reported to the ZAP room the students will not be allowed to go to a locker, another classroom, etc. to get their work. 7. The ZAP supervisor will call parents once a student has been ZAPPED10 times. 8. Students who do not go to ZAP when assigned will meet with Dr. Wihongi or Dr. McGee and may receive After School Detention or other consequences.

TEACHERS may ZAP students who have not turned in their homework or who, in the opinion of the teacher, have made little effort to complete the assignment. Teachers ZAP students for the following day, thus allowing the students a chance to complete their assignments that night. Students are ZAPPED at the teachers discretion.
1. To ZAP students the teacher gives a ZAP ticket to the students who did not do their homework (at all). 2. The teacher writes the names of students who have been ZAPPED on the ZAP Google Doc before 9:30 a.m. (At 9:30 the document is locked so that the ZAP aides can prepare. 3. Teachers place the assignments in the ZAP folder and take it (or send it with a student runner) to the ZAP room before the first lunch. 4. If the students have been absent from school they are allowed a reasonable time to complete their work. After that time, if they have not completed their homework, they can be ZAPPED. 5. If a student is to be excused from ZAP, the teacher must remove the students name from the Google Doc by 9:30 a.m.

6. When After School Detention is completed, the ZAP aides will place you ZAP folder in your box.

THE ZAP ROOM is equipped with computers, several textbooks for each course, as well as a copy machine to run off assignments. THE ZAP SUPERVISOR
1. Will have the work ready for the students and monitor the need for after-school ZAP (ASZ) for students who do not finish. 2. Will supply the VPs a list of students who do not show up to ZAP so the APs can give the appropriate consequence. 3. Will call parents as needed and deliver completed work to the teachers boxes. 4. Will track students who are ZAPPED10 times and make phone calls to their parents.
