Paragraph One Summary of the article (who, what when,
where, why and how)
Sentence 1: Topic Sentence
- Tells the main idea of the article and includes the what.
What is the event presented in the article.
Sentence 2 4 Body Sentences
- Supports the main idea of the article with the most
important facts in the article.
- Includes the why and/or the how.
Last Sentence Closing Sentence
- Restates the main idea in a different way.
- Introduces the idea that people/things will be affected by
the event as this will help your summary paragraph and
your reflection paragraph to flow smoothly.
Paragraph Two Reflection on the main event presented in
the article
Sentence 1: Topic Sentence
- Makes a general statement about how people/things are or
will be affected by the event.
Sentence 2-4: Body Sentences
- Reflect on how the event is important to you or to others
as well as the impact it has.
Last Sentence: Closing Sentence
- Tells your reaction to the event AND why you think/feel
that way. Was this article newsworthy and why?
