Great crested
It is important that the review of wildlife laws next year rationalises the plethora of unnecessarily complicated legislation Sir, Great crested newts can affect any development within 250m of their habitat (letter, Aug 21). As a rural surveyor I advise engineers laying cross-country water mains, and they often have to divert pipes due to the risk that there may be a newt near by. This results in higher costs and damage to less protected species and environment. Roger Cadbury might welcome the Law Commissions proposed review of our wildlife laws next year aimed at rationalising the plethora of unnecessarily complicated legislation.
