Give a description of Beowulf as an epic (max 10 lines)

Beowulf is the title of an Old English heroic epic poem, commonly cited as one of the most important works of Anglo-Saxon literature. But why is this work defined as an epic poem? An epic poem, as we know, is a long narrative poetical composition dealing with the recollection of a glorious past in the national history of a country. Beowulf corresponds in these aspects: as a matter of fact it was probably composed as an elegy for a king. On the other hand we find out other classical aspects of epic style, like the setting in great lands and far-off places (Sweden and Danemark), brave deeds and struggles of good against evil. And over all Beowulf contains the typical elements of epic poems; such as repetitions, long lists and devices like alliterations, kennings, formulae and litotes. It goes without saying: there are a lot of film stars I like but I prefer not to dwell on boring descriptions about hundreds of people, but to describe one in detail. The actor I am going to illustrate you is Rowan Atkinson! Maybe this name doesnt mean a lot for you, because he is better known as Mr. Bean, the character whom he interprets, who is a funny bumbling English man whose life doesn't go as smoothly as he has hoped and very often falls face into a series of mishaps and fortunate coincidences, far-fetched enough to make his public laugh and laugh! Ive known him since I was a kid and I watched his sketches on TV, which made me laugh very much then and now! He is very famous and almost all the people know him and his shorts and his films. I think Rowan Atkinson is a very good actor, because he manages to interpret the role of the stupid person without becoming pathetic but just ironic, thing that actors sometimes forget! [176 words]
