How was Rizal portrayed in general?

Rizal was portrayed as a living character of his written novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.

Strengths of the film

The film uniquely incorporated the characters of Rizals novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. It also used several flashbacks to visually give the full details of Rizals whole character (as a genius, a writer, a doctor, an artist, a lover, a friend, a brother and a son). Almost all of the facts shown were right. The film had all star cast which added to the impact it gave its audience. Too much flashbacks were used which were quite confusing if the audience were not really attentive to the movie.

Rizal was portrayed as someone who knows everything and good at everything. The film had shown Rizal as a savior of the Philippines as like a messianic figure. The costumes used were very appropriate to the time period being shown in the film. The context of the script was good. The music used added to the impact it gave to the audience.

Rizal was shown as an ordinary person rather than a public figure who shared through his letters and novels his personal feelings in his life experiences. He was one with great courage and love to fight for his country. Every scene had title before it which gave the audience a clear glimpse of what will be seen. Rizals character was not exaggerated which relates more to the audience as the film gave his true feelings about his experiences. Information shown were based on authentic documents which made the film reliable. The actors were not clearly seen. They were just like acting in shadows.

Rizal attempted and not actually burned his writings of Noli Me Tangere. Teodora Alonzos operation was held at their house at Calamba and not in Hongkong. Also, Teodora Alonzo was put to jail in the span of 2 years and not 2 years. The film Jose Rizal is the best portrayal so far of Rizals life and works.

Some of the scenes were not clearly visible due to the dark setting. Some of the lines were in Spanish language which were not understood as there was no subtitle. Teodora Alonzo had her operation at Calamba not in Dapitan. Maria was actually the one who disliked Josephine Bracken and not Teodora Alonzo. The film was simple yet delivered its message clearly.

The whole Rizal family disliked Josephine Bracken but actually it was only Maria who disliked her.

The narration was good but it may be better if the characters are really voicing out their script for some time.
