Woodbridge RTC Address

Hi, my name is Tony Szewczyk and Im your candidate for the 17th Senate district here in Connecticut. Im happy to be here tonight in Woodbridge and to have this opportunity to meet you and introduce myself. I was born and raised in Derby where I went to elementary school. I went to Kanty Prep in Erie, PA for high school and then on to the Catholic University of America in Washington DC where I earned my architects degree. The next 30 years were spent in northern VA working as a successful architect and raising a family of 5 children. We moved back to Connecticut in 2000 and Ive recently retired and have a part-time job. Ive been involved in local government in Derby for quite a few years. Ive been an alderman and even ran for Mayor once but Im not a politician. I would rather go see my grandkids or ride my Harley than run for office, but I dont feel like I have a choice. Ive always loved history it shows what weve done right and where weve gone wrong. History tells us that an over dependence on government doesnt lead to freedom or prosperity. This is what I see happening today in CT and the rest of the nation. I am a fiscal conservative and thats the basis of my platform. We need to reduce spending and get CT turned around. I love CT and am deeply saddened by its steady decline on all fronts. We need to open up CT again for business and industry in order to bring in revenue and create jobs. We need to control expenses to keep taxes down. Some areas that I want to concentrate on are: The escalating cost of education Out of control entitlements The impact of excessive and nuisance lawsuits Making CT a right to work state I want to introduce my wife, Judy, who will give you a brief summary of our campaign. Then Ill gladly take any questions.
