Tiffany Barnes The literature circle book that my group had to read was Here Comes the Garbage

Barge. The book was about a city that had more trash than space to put it. The theme of the booked was about how important it is to dispose of trash properly because its hard to get rid of it all. I choose five books that I thought tied well into this theme. I found a mix of graphic novels, fiction, and nonfiction picture books that all focused on the theme. I went to Barnes and Noble to find books and also used amazon.

Green, J. (2005). Why should I Recycle? New York: Barrons Educational Series. This book is about a teacher who takes talks to his classroom about the importance of recycling. He expresses to them why it is apparent that we separate trash from plastic and tin cans. He takes them on a field trip to a recycling plant where they learn all about recycling. This book could be used for second or third grade.

Wiley, T. (2009). Big Earth, Little Me. New York, NY: Scholastic Inc.

This book teaches 10 simple ways to save the earth every day. It had great illustrations and colors. It has very simple I can phrases. It could be used in a k-1 classroom.

Ward, D.J. (2012). What happens to our trash? : Collins. This is a nonfiction children book that talks about what happens to the trash that we throw out. It addresses the need to recycle. It gives great facts and interesting statistics. I would use this book in a 3rd or 4th grade classroom.

Allsburg, C. (2011). Just A Dream. New York, NY: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. This story is about a boy that has no knowledge about littering and its effects on the world. His peaceful dreams are replaced by a horrific nightmare about the future of the environment if people dont take care of it. He awakens with the motive to keep the earth clean. I would use this in a 2nd or 3rd grade classroom.

Madden, C. (2004). The Beast That Ate the Earth: Inkline Press. This is a Graphic Novel about all the things that harm the environment. It explains that there are many things that can harm the earth. It uses great cartoons and pictures to go along with what the author is portraying with his words. I would use this for 3rd and up.
