CLOSED VESSEL MEASUREMENT Where there is no possibility of liquid carry over to the top measuring tapping point, as the results of condensation, the upper tapping point can be directly connected to one side of the level instruments. However, if there is any condensation existing, the upper tapping point should be provided with a suitable condensing chamber and should be connected to the instruments as shown below.
GENERAL NOTES ON CONSTANT HEAD UNIT INSTALLATION A typical Constant Head Unit is designed by M/s. Kent Instruments, as shown in the figure. The constant Head tube is encircled by steam. A good condensate is ensured by leaving sufficient condensing area (i.e.) upper part of the Constant Head unit without insulation. Normally, the upper tapping point of the CH unit is aligned such that it matches with the upper level of the drum to be measured and the excess height of the vessel can be kept below, the lower tapping of the drum as shown in the figure. However, if CHU tapping are to be welded at equal heights with respect to drum normal working level, i.e., to match with the centre of the Constant Head Unit and normal working level of the drum, as shown in the figure, the excess height (LH) of Constant Head (i.e.) above the upper level of the drum should be adjusted in the instrument itself by range suppression. However, it is suggested to install the CHU as per the designers recommendations.
