Policy on Feedback During the Second 100 Weeks The Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine is committed to creating

an environment that supports learning based on assessment and feedback. As such, the School is committed to ensuring that each student receives a full assessment of his/her knowledge, skills, and behaviors in each of the 8 competencies. The School is also committed to the provision of timely formative and summative feedback to each student. The following policy outlines the mechanisms for provision of feedback, as well as the oversight and monitoring of the process. Students receive formative feedback at6-weekintervals from the ACE Directors during the third year. At the end of each 12-week block, the ACE Directors in the core clerkships from the previous block, as well as the ACE Directors in Medicine and Surgery, compile electronic feedback from the major clinical preceptors, small group leaders, and relevant multi-source assessors in their discipline. This information, along with the results of the students performance during RIA weeks, is presented verbally and in writing to the student. At that time, the student receives a tentative grade in that discipline. These feedback meetings are coordinated centrally by the ACE Managers and are conducted by the panel of appropriate ACE Directors, or their designees, thus ensuring that feedback is given in a timely manner. Nevertheless, the ACE Managers track receipt of formal feedback, and the effectiveness of this institutional procedure is reviewed at least semi-annually by the Curriculum Committee. Questions about the efficacy of this process are included in the students clerkship evaluation. During the fourth year, the faculty supervisors in each required rotation are expected to provide mid-rotation feedback to the students. The Directors of the acting internships in each discipline are expected to orient and develop their faculty with regard to this expectation. Receipt of documented formal feedback at the end of each rotation is monitored by the ACE Managers, with oversight by the Curriculum Committee as described above. Compliance with this policy is monitored by the Assistant Dean for the Advanced Clinical Experience.
