CHAPTER ONE REPENTANCE PRAYER Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent. ACTS 17:30 I grew up in church but did not like it. Personally, I thought church was lame and nothing but a bunch of rules and regulations. Every Sunday morning, my mom would drag me down the driveway and force me to get into the car to go to our conservative Chinese Baptist church in East San Jose. She would say, “Jaeson, as long as you are my son, you go to church!” So I did. I went as long as I had to go. 1 would always tell my mom, “You just wait till I curn 18! PI never come back to church again!” You see, I did not have a problem with Jesus. I had a problem with religion. To me, church was a system of dos and don'ts. When I was 13, I left church and planned to never come back. I told God, my mother and the old Chinese Baptist church, “Peace out.” I decided that I would party hard, get drunk, get high, get rich or die trying, and when I was 85 years old on my death bed, I would repent and give my life back to Jesus. That was my plan. But God had another plan. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lorp, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jer. 29:11, NIV). I grew up to be an Asian mother’s nightmare. I wanted to live my own life and did not care what my parents thought of me. There
