THE CAPTAINS CUP !!!

The Captains Cup will be a bi-annual match-play competition between Gauteng Nomads and Easterns Nomads. The competition is proposed by Spero Marinaki and Robbie Hillhouse, who will donate the trophy for the winning team. The first Captains Cup will be played in 2013, hosted by Gauteng and then alternating the hosts each time. Each team has a captain, who decides which players will team together during fourball and foursomes matches and compete in singles matches. Each team is made up of 20 players, who are selected as follows; 1) The captain of the club in the year that the competition is played, with his vice captain, junior vice captain and immediate past captain as automatic selection. 2) The top 14 points scorers in the club over the two year period prior to the competition where points are calculated as a total of each players 8 best nomads scores of each year combined, prior to the competition being played with a cut off point two months before the competition. 3) Captains pick of 2 players.

Format
The Captains Cup Matches involve various match play competitions between all players from each team. Matches will be played as follows; 1) 10 Foursomes matches Saturday morning 2) 10 Fourball matches Saturday afternoon 3) 20 Singles matches Sunday afternoon The winner of each match scores a point for their team, with a point each for any match that is tied after 18 holes. A foursomes match is a competition between two teams of two golfers. The golfers on the same team take alternate shots throughout the match, with the same ball. Each hole is won by the team that completes the hole in the fewest shots taking into account the teams combined handicaps and allowing shots on the stroke holes. A fourball match is also a competition between two teams of two golfers, but all four golfers play their own ball throughout the round rather than alternating shots, and each hole is won by the team whose individual golfer has the lowest score taking into account the players handicaps and allowing shots on the stroke holes. A singles match is a standard match play competition between two golfers. The defending champion team from the previous competition only needs to halve the cumulative point totals (20) to retain the Cup, while the opposing team must win it outright (20 or more).
