WEEKLY GMDSS EQUIPMENT TEST CHECKLIST


( To be filled in every Saturday as part of Saturday Routine ) ( Refer MERCHANT SHIPPING ( RADIO INSTALLATION ) REGULATIONS 1992 regarding routine testing of GMDSS equipment and relevant IMO regulations ) DAILY TESTS 1) The proper functioning of the DSC facilities has been tested at least once per day, without radiation of signals, by use of the means provided by the equipment. a) VHF DSC FACILITY TESTED BY MEANS OF "SELF TEST" ________YES / NO b) MF / HF DSC FACILITY TESTED BY MEANS OF " MODEM LOOP TEST" _______ YES / NO 2) Batteries providing a source of energy for any part of the radio installations has been tested daily and, where necessary, brought up to the fully charged condition. BATTERIES ARE IN FULLY CHARGED CONDITION ( TESTED DAILY ) _________ YES / NO WEEKLY TESTS 1) a)The proper operation of the MF / HF DSC facilities has been tested at least once per week by means of a test call, when within communication range of a coast station fitted with DSC equipment. VHF DSC FACILITY NOT TO BE TESTED BY MAKING A LIVE CALL !!! MF / HF DSC FACILITY TESTED BY MAKING A LIVE CALL: LAST TESTED ON DATE: _____________ TO STATION NAMED ___________________ ON DSC FREQUENCY ______________ b) Where the ship has been out of communication range of a coast station fitted with DSC equipment for a period longer than a week, a test call has been made on the first opportunity that the ship is in communication range of such a coast station. MF / HF DSC FACILITY TESTED BY MAKING A LIVE CALL ON FIRST OPPORTUNITY________ YES / NO ON DATE ______________ TO STATION NAMED ____________________ ON FREQUENCY _______________ RECEIVED CONFIRMATION ___________ YES / NO 2) Where the reserve source of energy is not a battery ( e.g. a motor generator ), the reserve source of energy shall be tested weekly. IS THE RESERVE SOURCE OF ENERGY A MOTOR GENERATOR ? _________ YES / NO IF YES, HAS IT BEEN TESTED THIS WEEK ___________ YES / NO MONTHLY TESTS 1) Satellite EPIRB has been tested at least once per month to determine it's capability to operate properly using the means provided on the device and without using the satellite system. ________ YES / NO, IF YES, WHEN ________________ 2) Each search and rescue radar transponder ( SART ) has been checked at least once per month using the in-built test facility and checked for security and signs of damage. ________ YES / NO, IF YES, WHEN ________________ 3) Each survival craft two-way VHF equipment has been tested at least once per month on a frequency other than Ch. 16 VHF. ________ YES / NO, IF YES, WHEN ______________ 4) A check has been made at least once per month on the security and condition of all batteries providing a source of energy for any part of a radio installation. The battery compartment has also been checked. _______ YES / NO, IF YES, WHEN _________________ NOTE: The above tests are a legal requirement. However, the annex to the GMDSS radio logbook published by the MSA in 1994 recommends the following additional tests: 1) Printers should be checked daily to ensure there is an adequate supply of paper. 2) Each survival craft two-way VHF equipment should be tested at least once per week on a frequency other than Ch. 16 VHF. 3) A check should be made at least once per month on the condition of all aerials and insulators.
