Why is it useful to collaborate with other teachers when thinking of and designing lessons for students?

* Why is reflecting on completed lessons a critical component of lesson planning?

Learners will know:

Learners will be able to:

*Web 2.0 Classworks is an internet based *Incorporate Web 2.0 Classworks tool tool used to introduce and practice into their math instruction lessons. *Web 2.0 Classwork tool is available at their school and can easily be adapted to fit their teaching needs and situations. * Create learning experiences for students that allow them to apply their math skills in a creative and authentic manner. *Provide an explanation of the concept of the classworks program.

Planning

Technology Integration Plan & Podcasts Effie Alanna Cowart Performance Tasks: *Create a lesson plan that requires student use of classworks. *Design a lesson plan that incorporates classworks into teachers instruction. Other Evidence: *Teachers will complete a brief survey regarding the use of classworks in learning. *Teachers will provide a reflection on their new knowledge and the anticipated impact on students. Plan Learning Experiences

Complete a brief survey to self-asses knowledge of the use of classworks program in the classroom. W In small groups, participants will create a word splash. On a large index card participants will be given the topic: Classworks. They are to then write whatever words, phrases, concepts, etc. that come to mind on the card. They will write what they already know about the classwroks program. Each group will then discuss what was written and why, index cards will be taped to a large poster. Following small group discussions, each group will contribute a few key words/phrases to a whole group chart and discuss, being sure to incorporate personal experiences with and pre-conceived notions about the use of technology in instruction. Also discussed will be the extent of knowledge they have about available programs both on and off -line. W Provide a brief overview of Classworks. Show a mini-lesson that can be used in

Technology Integration Plan & Podcasts Effie Alanna Cowart the classroom using the classworks program. H In small groups or pairs, participants will brainstorm ideas/concepts that could be taught using the classworks program. These ideas should be in relation to how classworks can be used in the teaching and learning of math. E-1 Allow participants to choose a Unit from classworks for lesson plan creation. They will then visit classworks and assign instruction. Teachers can adjust assignments to meet the needs of their students. Participants will take note of the unit they choose from classworks. Then, on the handout provided, they will jot down ideas for each of the two categories: 1. How can the teacher use this in classroom instruction? and 2. What can students do in the classworks program? E1, T Determine the standard that will be taught using classworks. Will you use it in your opening? Will it be used in centers? Will students complete assignments independently? Create objectives and plan how both students and teachers will use Classworks. E-1, T Participants will share lesson plans with 2 other workshop members. Each participant will review the lesson plan, while taking into consideration the limitations mentioned. For each lesson plan, they will provide each other with feedback. This will include one of the following: 1. Positive feedback. 2. One suggestion for consideration. 3. One question about the lesson or its implementation. E-1, R Based on the feedback given by two peers, participants will make revisions to their lesson plan as they see fit. They will record any changes made. If no revisions are made they must briefly explain why they chose not to. R Participants will then use included rubric to assess their intended lesson ideas. This rubric will assess the lesson based on Common Core Georgia Performance Standards in math as well as the International Society for Technology Education Standards. Final revisions done as necessary (final revisions

Technology Integration Plan & Podcasts Effie Alanna Cowart may be done outside of workshop) E-2, R Participants will complete a self-reflection of learning and a post-assessment. E-2

W- where the unit is going and what is expected, where learners are coming from H- hook learners and hold their interest E-1- equip learners, experience key ideas, explore issues R- rethink/revise understanding and work E-2- evaluate work and implications T-tailored (personalized) to needs of learners--*has been labeled in plan, but is

embedded throughout
0-organized learning--*this is not labeled in the learning plan, as the entire plan has

been used to organize the learning.

Evidence of 6 Facets of Understanding Explanation

Participants must be able to explain classworks assignments to students so that they can complete assignments. They must also be able to explain why no revisions were made to their lesson plans, if they chose not to make any, once receiving feedback from peers.

Interpretation

Participants must interpret the units available within classworks in order to determine the areas they can be used for in student learning.
Application

Participants must apply knowledge of Classworks in teaching and learning plans.

Perspective

Participants must assess and utilize Classworks from the perspective of students and the role of a teacher to determine how each can make use of Classworks in the classroom.
Empathy

Participants empathize with students varying ability levels by aligning instruction based on students ability levels. Students will be able to complete math assignments while having fun by playing a web based game.
Self-Knowledge

Participants will reflect on what was learned in this workshop. They will think about the misconceptions and lack of knowledge they had prior to the workshop and how their thoughts and opinions have been re-shaped as a result of the workshop.

Points to Consider

Technology Integration Plan & Podcasts Effie Alanna Cowart This workshop is being conducted in a school setting in a rural area in South Georgia. The schools here is only equipped with one full working computer lab. Teachers never have the opportunity to use the computer lab. The computer lab is used as an activity class. Teachers only have 4-5 computers to use in the classroom. This school has technology that is easily accessible to teachers. However, many teachers are closed minded to using technology in the classroom. The only time they use it is to watch a brainpop vdeo. Many are not willing to learn about the classworks program. The program has been provided for the Ben Hill County School System for the past 7 years and there are teachers who still have no idea as to how to log in. The teachers in this school are divided into grade levels. In kindergarten there are 16 teachers, 12 first grade, and 11 second grade teachers. Due to the large number of local teachers participating in this workshop and the lack of sufficient resources, some adaptations had to be made. The overall essence of this particular workshop is to expose teachers to the use of Classworks in the teaching and learning process and incorporate Classworks into lessons. In this workshop, teachers are in the planning stage only. To follow up on this workshop, teachers will have to work within their planning pod in the implementation of classworks. By doing this, they are more likely to have a small enough number of teachers to have enough computers to accomplish individual projects. Also, teachers who need to be taught pre-requisite skills can have a session with co-workers who already know how to properly use classworks. All of these factors could not be addressed in this workshop, again, due to the lack of resources and the lack of time allotted. Since it is not being conducted at my current place of employment, I am not able to plan concurrent sessions which I facilitate. Teachers will have seen several examples of finished products using classworks as well as demonstrations on how they work, both which can be revisited on the web (websites provided), to assist in the creation of new instruction. Instructions and screen shots will be provided for their follow-up session and product creation. Another point to consider, is that all of these limiting factors may also apply to the

Technology Integration Plan & Podcasts Effie Alanna Cowart students they are teaching. Classworks may be used by the teacher as a lesson hook, to practice a certain skill, and teachers can use classworks in the gaming and computer centers. If the teachers use centers then each student will be allowed time to work in the program each day. This is something teachers will have to consider in the creation of their lesson plans.
