CLASSROOM COMMUNICATION CHECKLIST

QUESTION Do the teacher, aide and casuals understand the importance of AAC and have knowledge of key terms and practices? Is simplified language used that matches the students understanding? Are classroom areas and items labelled with appropriate symbols? Where possible, are there clear, natural indicators to the start and end of activities? Is key word signing used consistently across environments? Are appropriate response times allowed before repetition or rephrasing? Are attention markers, such as students names, used consistently? Are supports, such as pointing, touching and gesturing used when needed? Do the teacher and aide regularly expect students to initiate communication? Does the teacher know how to use the digital camera? Does the teacher know how to use the digital camera software? Are photos used to create social stories? Are photos used for choice making? Does the teacher know how to use the computer snipping tool?
