Crabby Patty

My brother and I went for a stroll along the beach. He was holding a tiny bucket. I rolled my eyes when he told me he would collect hermit crabs instead of seashells. What a waste of time. After a few minutes, he have me a bucket of grappling hermit crabs. How great. I looked down to what Im holding. Hermit crabs. Tiny crabs carrying shells on their backs that are not really theirs. Their shells are all quite similar except for others with color variations. One crab was already trying to make its way to the rim of the pail, but was unfortunately pulled down by its fellow crabs. They look cute pulling down each other, but I think it isnt cute to look at humans doing it too. Crab mentality. The concept of pulling down others down to hinder them from attaining their own goals or successes. This ever-negative mentality that we Filipinos have patterned from the crabs (be it the hermit crab or the alimango or alimasag or other species) has also been ever-existent in our society; seated deeply into the veins of those who manifest this disease from which their Filipino blood runs through. From the simple folks of stinky, crowded slums to the sophisticated aristocrats of the big, busy metropolis, this is undeniably rampant. If I cant have it, neither can you. I really find this very immature, barbaric. Why do other people need to hinder someone elses path to success? Is it because they can not fond their own path to it? And so they (the crabs) resort to be on the look out on to who are almost on the verge of their sweet successes and pull them down to where they started their humble beginnings. And then they devilishly laugh their hearts content of the defeat of the other. Unfortunately, that is all they get for doing it. There isnt any gain at all on their (the crabs) side, but a terrible loss to the one they pulled down. This can be the setting on the squatters area. Neighbor number one gets to have his house renovated. Neighbor number two is envious, so he secretly creeps into his neighbors house at the dead of the night and starts a fire and tragically ends up burning the whole slum including his house. What a pity. The effect of being so crabby. How about the sophisticated aristocrats (others claim that they are but dont show) of the big, busy metropolis? Well, they have reached their zeniths. They do not want their vain faces removed from the hall of fame, be out of the limelight, be not the talk-of-the-town anymore. That would terribly shatter their narcissistic egos. What they do, lets say, is doing very well on his job and is apt for promotion, they look for faults and loopholes and everything. Then if they fail to find any, they concoct very mean stories and gossips; reveal false, dark secrets just to bring him down. How unprofessional (where are their manners?)

I really wonder. What do they get from their being crabs? Does it give them profit? Deficit? Whatever? Do they get any award or cash such, as greed, envy, pride, dishonesty, boastfulness`, holding grudges, etc. It does not do any good even to the crab himself. Crab mentality is almost impossible to eradicate in our society especially in the systems of those who are infected of this universal disease. But it is not too late for the casualties to change. Change until there is time. Instead of pulling each others down, push them up. Inspire and encourage them to go on. Behappy that fate has been good to them (and not so good to you?) Strive to find your own path to success, instead of barricading someone elses. And for those who are freakin scared to death that they will be surpassed by someone smaller than them, remember not all the time you are at the top. Do not let pride run your life. For those who were victims of the crabs do not let them pull you down. Go on and strive to attain your goals and achieve your success. Show them that you are worthy to achieve your own success. Let us not be like crabs in a bucket, pulling each other down. You might think that you are pulling someone down never knowing you are also being pulled down. If you would live just like this forever, then just be wise in choosing whom T90 pull you down, because you might be the first to fall. We are humans and certainly not crabs, we make crabby patties out of them and eat them.
