DEFINATION : The Theory that effective groups depend on a proper match between a leaders style of interacting with subordinates and the degree to which the situation gives control & influences to the leader

IDENTIFYING LEADERSHIP STYLE

LEAST PREFERED CO-WOKER(LPC) QUESTIONNAIRE : LPC is a questionnaire to identify the style by measuring whether a person is task or relation oriented. The LPC questionnaire asks respondents to think of all the coworkers they have ever had & describe the following least enjoyed relationship & oriented task oriented

After assessing an individuals basic leadership style through LPC questionnaire ,we match the situation. Fiedler has identified three contingency or situational dimensions. Leader-Member Relation Task Structure Position Power

Combining the three contingency dimension yields 8 possible situations in which leader will find themselves . The Fielder model proposes matching an individuals LPC score and these 8 situations to achieve maximum leadership effectiveness. It has been evaluated that contingency variables are also complex & difficult for practitioners to assess.
