cause significant damage to the local water supply, frequently leaving 8,000 people in the area without potable water. Prior to the construction of the wells, the citizens were dependent on unfiltered river water.
This project allowed for the installation of 26 water access points (concrete basins with copper faucets located throughout the village) for the population, with the city is currently installing more piping to allow additional residents to hook up their homes directly to the water supply. The four wells can supply 800 tons of water per 24 hour period or 150 Liters per person per day. The Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) in Georgia manages the spectrum of US Security Assistance and Cooperation and military contact programs in Georgia to achieve broad US and Georgian security cooperation objectives.
