Drake Hilliard AP World 9/6/12 Thesis: The Chernobyl Disaster caused the world to view nuclear energy in a much

different way; after the disaster people rethought nuclear energy, safety requirements increased, and the after effects of a nuclear disaster. I. History of Chernobyl A. A system failure occurred on April 26, 1986 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant near the Ukraine city of Pripyat. B. 60% of the fallout landed in Belarus C. Denied by the Russian Government D. Exclusion Zone exists today of 19 miles around the reactor II. Nuclear Energy A. People wanted to get rid of nuclear energy B. Rules became much stricter for power plants III. Safety Requirements A. New rules for cooling requirements B. Containment of wastes required IV. Effects of Chernobyl Disaster A. People left everything B. Evacuation was only supposed to last three days C. People still displaced after the disaster V. Conclusion A. Chernobyl changed the worlds view of nuclear energy
