Questions for Discussion 1. In general, how successful was the lesson? Did the students learn what you intended for them to learn? How do you know? Although, each student in the class demonstrated and vocalized their understanding of the goal, there were obvious behavior management issues.

2. If you have student artifacts available, what do those samples reveal about the students levels of engagement and understanding? It is obvious that students understood the tools and materials used by cave men.

3. Comment on your classroom procedures, student conduct, and your use of physical space. To what extent did these contribute to student learning? This was the first exciting and messy project of the year for first graders. They were very excited with the materials and the idea of being cave men. They were a complete mess by the end of the project and did not clean up as fast as I wanted them to. Each student in the room had to wash their hands, which takes up a significant amount of time, which I did not have after the assessment portion of the lesson had been accomplished. Putting trays on the tables, seemed to take up a lot of time. I had student helpers pass out papers and aprons. By the time students received their materials and wrote their names, students were getting rambunctious and ready to start.

4. Did you depart from your lesson plan? If so, how and why? Yes. I did not have time to close out the lesson the way I would have liked. Clean up took up too much time. I did not have time to spend on the questions that I would have liked to ask. Although the creation process is a Higher Order Thought Process in itself, I did not have time to ask the HOQ at the end of the lesson.

5. Comment on different aspects of your instructional delivery. To what extent were they effective? Most of the class was art production. Other than the instruction in the beginning, most of instructional delivery for this unit was given last week.

6.

If you had the opportunity to teach this lesson again to the same group of students, what would you do differently? I would create a way to distribute materials and collect materials in a faster way. Next time, I will have half of the class create with the messy materials, and then switch to an activity that is not as messy. Also, I will assign jobs in the beginning of the class. It is the third time that I have seen this group of students, and it will take a few messy projects to get the procedures down.

7. (*Not applicable for observation #2*) Based upon the reflections of the observations at this point (formal, informal, video, and/or peer), what goals can you set in order to improve student leaning?
