The Atomic Bomb

Nirmal Kathiravan, Vaibhav Desikan, Rohan Madathil Group Website Junior Division

Process Paper:
We chose our topic by looking at different turning points in history. We looked at biological warfare, the atomic bomb, and the creation of the light bulb. We were interested in something that changes the whole world forever, including the effects in foreign warfare. This led us to decide that the atomic bomb would be the best subject for us, since the atomic bomb changed the way people fought wars. The atomic bomb led to two other bombs, which are the nuclear and hydrogen bombs. Also, we thought that the atomic bomb would give a substantial number of facts and research to learn about the nuclear warfare involved in this subject. Our group wanted to have substantial information in our research so that we could go in depth with our subtopics. We met at the library or one of our house's almost every weekend to discuss and work on our project. In the library, we got our sources from articles, books, and the Internet. One such book we chose is The Manhattan Project, which had information and designs of the atomic bomb. The websites we chose were based on either extra facts or more information for subtopics in our website, like History of the Atomic Bomb and The Manhattan Project. The books and articles were used primarily to give the authors opinions and information on the subtopics. Our team decided that the website is the best choice for this topic to go to the history fair. In order to achieve the best marks in this project, we chose to do a website since it was an interesting category that we wanted to utilize our skills. The website editor offers many tools that our group will use. One such tool is the video up loader where you can upload a video and format it to a certain size, resolution and location on the page. We created our website by collecting necessary information, such as how the bomb was made, who made it, and the effects/after-effects. Then we made separate pages on the site for organizing the material and also added a glossary for unfamiliar words. The site examples are How the Bomb was Made, The Manhattan Project. The atomic bomb was a turning point in history because the fields that were affected by the atomic bomb contributed to the modern world. In warfare, many other countries rivaled with the United States of America to match our atomic bomb structure. The atomic bomb paved the way for nuclear warfare, a new age of warfare. The atomic bomb also has affected world humanity and health because of the deaths during the explosion and even after due to the radiation. The radiation caused cancer and many other diseases for many people. There are many debates today about whether the bomb was necessarily needed. Robert Lewis, co-pilot of the Enola Gay said, My God, what have we done? The Enola Gay was the plane that carried the first atomic bomb.
