LESSON 1: QUANTITATIVE ASPECTS OF EDUCATIONAL PLANNING 1. Why are educational statistics data is important and necessary? Answer: Educational statistics data is important because this is will be served as the useful data for educational research and give information in the current administration of the educational sector and to give a broad description of educational sector to the general public. 2. Considering local needs and situations, how can basic statistical data for educational planning be obtained? Answer: The basic statistical data for educational planning will be obtained in a 6 ways are the regular consensus of students, teachers, graduates, etc.in all institutions, regular sample surveys of students; ad-hoc surveys at irregular intervals, population consensus; sample routine reporting of data obtained as a by product of educational administration. 3. How are educational statistics classified? Suggest other ways of classifying them. Answer: The proper classification of data presenting statistics on schools classes, students, and teachers may be: By authority responsible for schools.e.government schools, private schools, foreign schools, etc, By level and school cycles. That is, distinction may be made among the different levels of education: elementary, secondary, tertiary; school cycle may be presented by grade or by year. The secondary

level may be subdivided into academic/general/vocational/technical,etc.classes and students may be further subdivided into mathematics, communication arts, social science, etc.students at the tertiary level will be divided in the line of study; e.g. education, engineering, etc. 4. What is the difference between stock data and flow data? Give examples of each. Answer: Stock Data describe the situation of the educational system at a given point in time, in terms of total numbers of schools, teachers, and students for each type and level of education while flow data ,describes the internal dynamics of the educational system. Example: Pupils who were in grade1 in a certain year are not sure to be promoted that is the example for stock data. It is possible that they are repeating the grade, or the following they have left school. That is the example of flow data. 5. How are the processing, storage and retrieval of data be done in your locality? Propose other ways to improve the process. Describe them briefly. The data processing is the input system, which transfers the original data to a form that is suitable for processing, arithmetic unit, which consist of desk calculators or computers, storage system, which permits keeping of all original information as will as intermediate data which appeared in the processing of original ones; and output which enables the statistical office staff to present processed data in a form which can be printed and published. These modern encoding for the new input or modern recording using

electronics devices like computer will be helpful to the locality because it is easy to manage but its dangerous when your files have a virus this is the end of your input, your record will be disappear and will be corrupted thats why we need to have a extra hard drive for your files its better to have it so that you can double save it.
