BRIEF DESCRIPTION
-Geographic location
Tula region was formed on September 26, 1937. The administrative centre of Tula region is the
City of Tula, which was founded in 1146. There are 21 towns (including large cities Tula, Novomoskovsk,
Aleksin, Shchekiono, Uzlovaya and Efremov) and 23 districts. Tula region is situated in the centre of the
European part of Russia, in the Central Russian Upland inside the steppe and forest-steppe zones. It borders
on Moscow region in the north and north-east, Ryazan region in the east, Lipetsk region in the south, Orel
region in the south and south-east and Kaluga region in the west and north-west. The territory of Tula region
is 25,7 thousand square kilometers (0, 15% of the territory of Russia). Maximum length of the region from
the north to the south is 200 km, and 190 km from the west to the east. Tula region has a developed transport
network used for freight and passenger transportation. Such important federal highways as "MoscowThe
Crimea", "MoscowDon", "KalugaTulaMikhailovRyazan", "KalugaPeremyshlBelevOrel"
run through the region. Large trunk railways link Tula with other Russian regions and countries of near and
far abroad.

-Resource potential of the region
Land resources are the basis of natural weald in Tula region. About 75% of land is used by agriculture.
The region is characterized by a great variety of raw material resources: brown coal, pyrites, limestone,
fire clays, sands, gypsum, rock salt, phosphorites. There are anomalies of noble metals, polymetals,
cadmium, copper, silver, barium, lithium, which are suitable for commercial development. Prolific
climatic conditions, rich natural complex and historic-cultural potential of Tula region enable developing
active forms of tourism: rural, ecological and recreational tourism; hunting and fishing; historical and
ethnographic trips; pilgrimage to holy places.
The size of region's population at the beginning of 2011 was 1550,3 thousand people, with urban
population amounting to 79,4%. According to the Russian census (October 2010) the largest nation in
Tula region is Russian 95,2%. The educational level of the population employed in the economy of
Tula region is quite high. Over a half of those working (57,3%) have a professional education, including
18,4% higher professional education.

- Agriculture
Agro-industrial complex has considerable share in the economy of Tula region. In Tula region is
counting around 350 agricultural companies of various organizational and legal patterns of
farming. The volume of agricultural production in the recent years has an upward trend. The
introduction of intensive resource-conscious technologies affected 51 sites, besides, a construction
of 4 large dairy complexes and one for beef production. On January 2012, There was an increase
in pork production.
At present there are about 400 companies of food and food processing industry in the region
employing 25 thousand people. The stability in this sector during the last five years served a
determining factor of its attraction as an investment in the region.

INVESTMENTS
The administration of Tula region has a successful experience of interaction with foreign and domestic
investors in the organization of new and the improvement of the productions already launched. There is
constant work to create favorable conditions for investments. In recent years there has been a growth in
investment activity in the regional economy. Total volume of the foreign investments in 2011 made up $504,6
million and increased by 37,8% in comparison with 2010. The investment growth was because of the increase
in other loans. Major share of overall volume of investments formed other investments (79,3%). Direct
investments made up 20,7%.
Foreign investments also involved such sector as construction, wholesale and retail trade, real estate
activities. Major investors in the economy of Tula region were such countries as the USA, Israel, Cyprus, the
Netherlands. Now large foreign companies are successfully working on the territory of Tula region, including
"Procter & Gamble" (USA), "Cargill" (USA), "Knauf" (Germany), "Unilever" (UK, Netherlands), "SCA
Hygiene Products Russia" (Sweden).

Foreign economic activity is realized by 300 market participants in Tula region, with various ownership
patterns. The external turnover on January amounted to $ 104.8 million. The external turnover of the region
preserves the trend of export surplus. More than 90 countries of the world are contracting parties of Tula
region in export-import operations. The main trade and economic partners are European countries, which share
in the external turnover of the region is more than a half. Nearly the whole assortment of goods made by Tula
enterprises and companies is represented on the European market. The most active relations have been
established with Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Czech Republic.
At present, about one third of the whole exported production is shipped to Asian countries. The chief
partners of this region are India, China, Turkey, Syria, and the Republic of Korea.
A trade and economic partner on the American continent is the USA, which annual share in the external
turnover of the region is 5-6%. More than 70 companies of Tula work on this market. Traditionally, the main
partners of our region in the countries of the CIS are Ukraine, Byelorussia and Kazakhstan.
