Young Artists in Residence

Saturday art classes held at The Maple Street School, 21 Lincoln Rd, Brooklyn, NY
Co-taught by Simone Leigh and Yasmin Spiro. Our classes reflect contemporary art
practice by using a wide variety of resources - conceptually and formally. We expose the
children to a wide range of approaches to art making as well as aid them in developing
a strong art making skill set.

Self-Portraits: Ages 4-6 Wearable Art: Ages 6-10

Students will explore the art of portrai-
ture through looking at contemporary
and historic art, and by learning the
mediums of watercolor, collage and
printmaking. Students will create 4 self-
portraits in the different mediums
7 sessions, Saturdays 10-11,
Feb 28th - April 4th
With a culminating celebration and exhibition
led by Yasmin Spiro
Students will explore the tradition of
wearable art, costume and performance
- investigating the work of contemporary
artists, Caribbean carnival and African
art. Students will create a headpiece and
a full garment of wearable art.
7 sessions, Saturdays 11:30-12:30,
Feb 28th - April 4th
With a culminating celebration and exhibition

Simone Leigh has been working for the Studio in a
School organization for over 8 years, with a special-
ization in early childhood. She has also worked for
the Center for Arts Education, led workshops at the
Brooklyn Museum and The Brooklyn Public Library,
and Child's Place for Children with Special Needs.
Yasmin Spiro has been teaching for over 10 years,.
She has worked with the Studio in School organizaion
for over 5 yrs, and she has also taught wth the Doing
Art Together program at the Metropolitan Museum,
Pratt’s saturday art program and the National Gallery
of Jamaica’s summer arts programs.

The 7 week session: Cost $200 with a $40 materials fee.

To ensure that every child gets the attention they need we are limiting the class sizes to 10.
