Exhibition Timeline

March 4 March 11, 2013


UOI: Exhibition Identify your global issue and its connection to your passion. Unpacking the central idea: rephrase the central idea in your own words for Exhibition and express your understanding of it in three different ways in your process binder. Complete a Think/Puzzle/Explore to identify aspects of your research. Develop your research questions based on the PYP concepts. Identify the different sources you can use for your research into your global issue. Action focus for the week: What does Action look like?

Week One: Getting Started

Exhibition Think Book Express your expectations for what you hope to get out of the Exhibition experience. (How do you think you will grow from the Exhibition experience?) Reflect on the Transdisciplinary Skill of Communicating (How are you communicating your ideas?) Reflect on the Learner Profile of Balanced (How will you show BALANCE as you complete the Exhibition?) Reflect on the Attitude of Commitment Other think book entry options: o 6 Hats Reflection on what has been accomplished this week in Exhibition. o Pictures/Visual connections to the learning from the week. o Connections to other units from the year. o Begin a connection wall in your think book.

Meet with Your Mentor Schedule when you will meet with them during the Exhibition process. Introduce yourself to your mentor and explain your passion and why it is your passion and your possible connections to a global issue.

Week Two: Research

Select your three research questions based on the PYP concepts that will guide your inquiry into your global issue. Select a note-taking method based on the different methods presented to you in class. Use your note taking method to gather information about your global issue. Work with Ms. Jen on how to identify sources of information and how to record the sources of your information. Sign the Academic Honesty form in the process binder. Record the sources of your information for each of the notes that you complete. Develop an idea for how you will represent your passion or global issue in an artistic manner for the Arts in the Exhibition presentation. Action Focus for the Week: How can Action make a difference and create positive change in the world or your community?

Reflect on the Transdisciplinary Skill of Research Reflect on the Learner Profile of Knowledgeable Reflect on the Attitudes of Integrity and Curiosity Reflect on the progress of your learning in Exhibition (What have I done? What do I need to do? What am I learning?) Other Think Book options: o 6 Hats Reflection on what has been accomplished this week in Exhibition. o Pictures/Visual connections to the learning from the week. o Connections to other units from the year. o Add to the connection wall in your think book.

Meet with Your Mentor


Discuss the progress of your research. Discuss where you can find additional information. Discuss problems or areas that you need help with. Discuss with your mentor What is Action? Begin to discuss possible ideas for your own action.

Week Three: Research and Writing

Organize your notes in preparation for writing a first draft of your research paper. Use your notes to complete a first draft of your research paper. Edit and revise your first draft and compose a second draft of your research paper. Decide on how you will present the final copy of your research paper. Form action groups based on similar global/local issues Complete the My Action-Action Plan in your process binder. Work with your mentor and parents to complete the plan. Continue to work on the artistic expression of your passion or global issue in preparation for the Arts in the Exhibition presentation.

Meet with Your Mentor


Discuss your research report progress. Explain how you will present your final report. Discuss possible action that can be taken and begin the My Action-Action plan.

March 25 April 8, 2013 (Spring Break: March 30-April 8)

Week Four: Final Research Report/Taking Action

Complete the final copy of your research report. Finalise your action plan and then complete your action with the support of your mentor and parents. Record evidence of your action through videos/pictures/interviews/etc. Continue to work on the artistic expression of your passion or global issue in preparation for the Arts in the Exhibition presentation.

Work on plans to finalise your action. Discuss the final copy of your research report.

Week FIve: Finalising Action

Begin to plan the items that will need to be created for the X-Day presentation. o Items for display o Videos/pictures that the community can view o Graphs or diagrams that show your learning Submit the evidence of your action to your teachers. Continue to work on the artistic expression of your passion or global issue in preparation for the Arts in the Exhibition presentation.

Continue to work on creating the items that you will need for the X-Day presentation. Begin to work on the oral presentation that you will share with the school community on X-Day.
