Code Drum under Thermal-Mechanical Loadings

For petroleum industry, coke drums are important equipment in the delayed coking process. Coke drums go through severe cyclic thermo-mechanical operating conditions during coking. These may cause severe damage in the form of bulging and cracking. The prevention of failure and service improvement of coke drums have been highly priority topics in the relevant industry for decades. The FEA analysis on Coke drum will be done by the following two steps: 1) Only a small portion of coke drum will be analyzed here. First step will have the following two parts: a) Model 1(a) will examine the stresses in material of the coke drum shell caused by temperature cycle with in-phase internal pressure (Elastic-plastic model). b) Model 1(b) will study the stresses caused by temperature non-uniform distribution (Thermo-elastic transient analysis). 2) Full 3D model of the coke drum will be analyzed in second part under both thermalmechanical loadings.

Step1: The figures of the model of a portion of the coke drum are given below.

Step 2:

The complete coke drum will be analyzed here. The figure of the overall geometry is given in Fig.2. The number in the circles indicates data point locations. References 1.
