Alboom Review

Alboom is an Omani movie about a village near the sea where most villagers
depend on fishing for their income. However, their source of income is
threatened by "Abu Sanasil", a sea beast which destroys their boats and forces
fish to leave the territory, which makes many villagers give up and decide to
sell their boats. Apart from the former theme which is superstition, there is
another theme which is the conflict between tradition and modernity. A third
theme that the movie is concerned of is the issue of free trade and its
drawbacks on Omani society. As far as characters are concerned, Salim "Saleh
Zael" is representative of hope of better life whereas A'Shaikh Ibrahim "Saoud
A'Darmaki" represents injustice. Both of them play their roles perfectly; these
roles fit to both of them. Apart from these two actors, the film cast is well
chosen in relation to the role being acted. All in all, as the first experience in
film making, Alboom is well-directed and it is worthy to be watched.
