Sea and Daughter (For my daughter Dhanya)

Trying to remove thoughts of you I get fixed with the image of your face again Some young girl of your age cries in pain. Which sounding like yours I begin to panic Trying again and again to see your face Now What would you be playing? Keerthans in your mind Left over saplings Would you be lisping and murmuring? In your new cradle would you be swinging about, forgetting your hunger. Ecstasy and drunken fit have begun to cause pain in my heart With milk curdling and hardening in my breast. You are a treasure beyond words. Creating the Shanthinikethan which is all yours I am improving, changing and getting fulfilled. You are growing up as the ridge gourd creeper Irresponsible fatherThat name alone lasts The sea that I understood I did not introduce to you. Anxiety Directionless anger Unprotected journey all of which When they ruined me The golden sand And the crows of the sea that I showed Must have been forgotten because of your departure The day when I lifted you with both my hands and caressed having moved on Today becoming one with my mind. Allowing the waves to play on my feet In the endless beach Till the end Holding your tender hand Even in this beach Which is not so beautiful Lets learn the sea.

Kaalram alaigal vilaiyaada Mudive illaadha beachil Mudium varai Un pinju kai patri Avvalavu azhagaayillaadha Indha karaiyilum Kadal karpm.
