Plot

What happens in the story is called the Plot. Readers can create an outline of the plot and get a better understanding of cause and effect. It is important to have the facts in your outline in order. Below are a few sentences out of order from Chapter 1 in Because of Winn-Dixie. Reorder the sentences from the first event that happened to the last event.

______ Please, said the manager. Somebody call the pound. ______ I walked into the produce section of the Winn-Dixie grocery store to pick out my two tomatoes and I almost bumped right into the store manager. _______ And the two of us, me and Winn-Dixie, started walking home. _______ Wait a minute! I hollered. Thats my dog. Dont call the pound. ________ The dog came trotting over to me just like he had been doing it his whole life. ________ And then the dog came running around the corner. He was a big dog. And ugly. And he looked like he was having a real good time.
