CHARACTERISTICS OF A NORMAL DISTRIBUTION

These are the characteristics of a Normal Probability Distribution:
1. The curve is bell-shaped and has a single peak at the exact center of the distribution. 2. The arithmetic mean, median, and mode of the distribution are equal and located at the peak. 3. Half the area under the curve is above the peak, and the other half is below it. 4. The curve is symmetrical about its mean. 5. The curve is asymptotic--the curve gets closer and closer to the x-axis but never actually touches it. 6. Approximately 68 percent of the area under the curve lies between +1 standard deviation 7. Approximately 95 percent of the area under the curve lies between +2 standard deviations 8. Approximately 99.7 percent of the area under the curve lies between +3 standard deviations
