Original Andrews Salts Product Information. Presentation: Effervescent powder containing Magnesium Sulphate 17.4% w/w, Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate 22.6% w/w and Citric Acid 19.5% w/w. Indications: recommended as a laxative and an antacid for the relief of upset stomach, indigestion and biliousness. Dosage and administration: Adults (including the elderly): As an antacid, one level 5ml spoonful in a glass of water repeated as necessary, up to a maximum of four times a day. As a laxative, two level 5ml spoonfuls in a glass of water before breakfast or at bedtime. Children over 3 years: Half the adult dose. Children under 3 years: not recommended. Precautions: Contains sodium 319 mg per 5 ml spoonful avoid frequent use on low sodium diets and in hypertension, cardiac or renal dysfunction. Daily adult dose contains 8.4g sugar use with caution in diabetics. If a laxative is required every day or there is persistent abdominal pain seek medical advice. Pregnancy and lactation: Caution should be exercised when recommending to pregnant women. Side effects: Diarrhoea may occur with extensive usage.
