What is energy?! Can anybody lift 100 kilos easily?? What is required to be able to do that? Energy makes it possible to do work. We can lift the weight only if we have the energy to do that! How is energy stored in our body??

Can we measure energy? Just like we measure weight in kilograms distance in kilometers and volume in liters we measure energy in Joules! It is approximately equal to lifting 100g object to a height of 1 m!!

Conversion of energy : Energy can be converted from one form to another. For eg: In a light bulb electrical energy is converted into light and heat! For eg: Wind energy is converted into electrical energy using a windmill!

Energy may be converted from one form to another and used in various ways Let us recreate a medieval throwing machine called a trebuchet. A trebuchet utilizes the cobersion of gravitational potential energy into kinetic energy. Conversion of energy from one form to another always results in some loss!

Notes: How does a trebuchet work? Imagine what would happen on a seesaw (a simple lever) if a book were placed on one end and you were to jump on the other endthe book would go flying into the air. A trebuchet functions similarly, except that the pivot point of the lever is placed offcenter (in this case, farther away from the load) to amplify the force that launches the projectile. The load, or object to be moved is kept on one end of the trebuchet s arm and the potential energy of the rubber band is converted into kinetic energy.
